     Earlier this week I’d been talking to a friend about why Rose was so amazing and well, excuse me if you have different opinions, better than the other companions.  When I’d told him that I found I didn’t like Martha or Amy as much as Rose, hell I even loved Donna, he said, “It’s probably because the doctor was in love with Rose and when Martha came right after, she was in love with him.  And you probably like Donna because she had no kind of emotional attachment of the sort, more of a sibling relationship.”

     This was probably true.  But I’m rewatching Doctor Who now, and I realized something: Martha always has a way of finding negativity about the doctor and who he is and what he does.  She’s said, “He’s brilliant, but he’s like fire.  Stand too close and you get burned.”  Which, obviously, is true, but she’s neglecting to acknowledge that he literally does not have to poke his nose into their lives and save them.  If he didn’t so many more people would get “burned” but he saves so many.  And despite all his hurt, he keeps going.

     And then, in season 4 episode 11: Turn Left, it’s the episode of the big “What if?”.  This whole episode is one of my favorites because it’s almost a slap in the face to Martha’s whole “He’s brilliant, but he’s like fire.  Stand too close and you get burned” thing because it’s literally showing what would happen if people—or the doctor—stayed away (well in this case died but even so, you get the point.)  

     Rose, my beautiful, perfect Rose, says something along the lines of “You’re brilliant, Donna, it just took being with the doctor to show you that.”  

     I’m probably being totally overdramatic, but do you see?  Rose is amazing and my favorite because she sees the doctor for who he really is.  Not only did she fall in love with 9 (my personal favorite—sorry, I think he’s sexy) but she knows the doctor and she was good for him.  They were both better with each other.  The doctor and Rose Tyler… The should have been Doctor’s wife.

     Anyway, my point is that Rose knew the doctor and she loved him and that is why she is my favorite—because she saw him for who he was.  Martha and Amy could only say things that belittled his efforts and I did not like them at all.  Even Donna knew, sometimes I think, who he was, and River too, which is why I really quite like River except for the whole Doctor’s wife thing. 

     Anyway.  Point made.

So we’re just going to ignore how ‘perfect Rose’ essentially cheated on Mickey, the man who almost went to prison for her murder and essentially stuck by her til she threw him away after being led on emotionally and was CHEATED ON THREE TIMES? Funny how NOBODY ever acknowledges that she shit on Mickey over the course of 2 seasons……

Martha loved him too, but she realized how abusive he is and left for her own good. He IS like fire considering Martha is the only main companion who LIVED. Rose? “Dead” in the sense that she doesn’t exist in this dimension. Donna? She can never remember else she dies. Amy and Rory? Dead. River? Dead. Clara? Died like what? 3 times already???

Belittled his efforts? So the fact that Martha called him back to Earth because she KNEW he was the one who could help humanity when the Sontarans were attacking is ‘belittling?’ She knows the good he can do. But she ain’t naive, especially considering the emotional abuse he levied on her the WHOLE TIME. The Doctor even said HIMSELF in season 4: “I used to be with martha, but then i RUINED HER LIFE.”

EVEN DAVID TENNANT HIMSELF SAID MARTHA DESERVED BETTER THAN THAT BULLSHIT.
